I created Stephoñe with an awareness of the generations of attacks on the Black family: the separation of loved ones under slavery, the barriers of segregation, and the discrimination that has placed pressure on our homes, livelihoods, and opportunities. That history matters to me. So do the love, creativity, care, and determination that have kept our families and communities connected.
When I ask us to see each other as Kings and Queens, I mean recognizing the dignity that is already there. Every one of us deserves to be treated with care, whether we are thriving, starting over, or still finding our way. Our worth does not depend on a title, an income, or what we wear.
Embrace each other. Make room for healing.
I want us to look at one another with love, listen before we judge, and make room for honest conversations. We can acknowledge hurt, take responsibility for the harm we cause, and respect each other’s boundaries. Healing deserves patience and support. We should be able to ask for help and find people willing to walk beside us.
Let our connections create opportunity.
Unity grows through what we do. Share a resource. Make an introduction. Support a Black-owned business. Mentor someone coming behind you. Celebrate another person’s success and help open the next door. Networking can become a way of caring for one another when we build relationships with trust, generosity, and a willingness to see each other grow.
Care for the family we are building.
For me, honoring the Black family means caring for our children, respecting our elders, supporting parents and caregivers, and embracing the relatives and chosen family who show up for us. It means giving the next generation examples of love they can trust and carry forward.
That is the heart of Stephoñe. I want the crown to remind us of our responsibility to each other: to love with intention, build together, and leave our people stronger through the care we give.
